At Sacks Morasha we recognise the importance of teaching a Curriculum that is broad and balanced. Our Chol Curriculum consists of the three core subjects;
We also teach non-core subjects;
- Humanities ( History and Geography)
- Art and Design and Technology
Our Curriculum is constantly evolving and our Teachers work together to ensure it is relevant, engaging and accessible to all pupils. Since becoming an Academy in March 2019 we have explored the possibilities of having more flexibility within the curriculum. Our focus this year is to continue to make sure that our non-core curriculum subjects are taught with all our Teachers understanding the principles of the three I’s.
- What do we want pupils to be able to know and do by the time they leave?
- How does our curriculum plan set out the sequence and structure of how it’s going to be implemented?
- Why is it shaped the way it is?
- How have we made these objectives clear?
- How does it cater for disadvantaged and minority groups?

All our non-core subjects are led by a Team of Middle Managers supervised by the Senior Leadership Team. Our subjects all have action plans with short term and long term targets and there is a Sacks Morasha three year curriculum action plan in place. Our focus this year is on improving and developing how we teach History and Computing with particular reference to the three I’s ( see above) and from July 19 have had discussions and Insets with all Teachers. Our approach to History and Computing is constantly being evaluated and discussed both in whole school Insets as well as in general phase meetings ensuring that everyone is on the same page, that our curriculum is a combination of skills and knowledge based learning and that skills and learning are progressing throughout the different year groups. It is our aim that by September 2020 that our History and Computing Curriculum are firmly in place.
In addition there has been one MAT Meeting where coordinators of all the various non-core curriculum subjects have met to discuss our approach with our subjects and further meetings are planned to see how we can further this joint relationship of support and challenge within the MAT schools.

At Sacks Morasha, we firmly believe that music is a unique, dynamic and enjoyable way of communicating that inspires and motivates our pupils. We nurture our children’s enjoyment of music through performing, composing and listening to music of different styles. We embrace both Jewish and British values and offer a broad and exciting repertoire of music for Singing Assemblies and Kabbalat Shabbat. The repertoire of songs is constantly renewed and enriched. The school has an outstanding choir, which is often in demand for outside performances such as Young Voices, Boys Town Jerusalem and various charity events. All children have opportunities to perform in major venues including the Barnet Music Festival. Every year a wide range of Jewish songs is used in preparation for the Chaggim, Kabbalat Shabbat Assemblies, Chagigat Siddur and Chagigat Chumash. Year 3 pupils learn to play the recorder in preparation for our annual Music Appreciation and Chanukah Concerts. In their final year, every child takes part in a school production for parents in which they demonstrate their wonderful singing and acting abilities. The school aims to give every child the chance to immerse themselves in the world of music and enjoy the immense benefits it brings.
At Morasha, we are aiming to encourage more children to get involved in a variety of sports. Football is a very popular sport in our school and therefore we have run an inter-house tournament at Mill Hill Powerleague, and we are looking at doing the same in the Summer term. For the first time at Morasha, we have set up a table tennis club open to KS2 children after school and during lunchtime. This has been well received. This year we have been able to give further opportunities to Years 3, 4 and 5 to go swimming once a week. This term children across the school will be taking part in a Skipping competition.
Humanities at Sacks Morasha is taught through our topic lessons and each half term we explore a new theme based on Geography or History. The children have enjoyed learning about these topics through different mediums, including trips to the Verulamium to learn about the Romans, the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels, and The British Museum to look at the Ancient Egypt exhibition. We also have drama workshops based on the Humanities topic to help the children imagine what that time was like.
Our Computing curriculum is brought to life through the other National Curriculum topics it is taught through. Children are taught a variety of skills such as using technology for a variety of reasons, using multiple programs to complete a task, how to work safely online and how to create and debug simple programs, using their coding skills. Children are also taught and encouraged to use the correct terminology when discussing their computing work. Last year we shared the children’s work by presenting it at a Computing Showcase. This gave children and adults a chance to see Computing work from other year groups. The children felt a sense of pride watching others play their games and view their stop motion animations. Children are encouraged to use their Computing skills in other subjects, such as Maths and Humanities. They use apps like Showbie to access work set by teachers, and Kahoot to take part in class quizzes. They also use Microsoft Word and internet searches to create mood boards for Art. The children have created games on JI Tap using information they have learnt in Kodesh and Ivrit lessons.
